LyX & linguistics?

I am trying to typeset some linguistic syntax, e.g., ⁎wódrr̥ . This shows up correctly in LyX, but does not produce the ring under the r at the end in pdf preview. I have installed the TIPA package, but don't know exactly how to use it.

Also, what if I want to typeset Greek words like ὕδωρ — how can I do that?

(NOTE: I'am a complete amateur in linquistics...)
