Mac OS- Windows incompatibility?

Hello everyone,

I am having a very odd situation: we are a team of coauthors, one of whom only uses LyX, and is on Mac OS. I’ve downloaded the source latex file to import in LyX, but LyX won’t compile. Other coauthor on Windows have no trouble typesetting the LyX file. 

I am attaching a screenshot of the log file. No matter what I do, the typesetter seems to think that there is an extra “}”, but for sure this extra bracket is nowhere to be found (and LyX on windows does not have this issue when compiling the document). 

What could be wrong? I thought maybe a different character system? In case it matters, I tried the source .tex file in Texshop, and it won’t compile either. 

Grateful for any suggestions that can fix this!
