Open document in tabs doesn't work

Dear All,

LyX opens all documents in new windows instead of tabs, despite my
preference setting indicating documents should open in tabs. I am using LyX
Version 2.4.0~RC3 on Linux Mint 22.2 Cinnamon. Thank you.
