The example of "large" that we had was 1000+ authors, and it caused a
crash of the whole session for the reporter.
To see whether 10 authors is large, could you try to remove those
particular entries from the bibtex file and see whether this helps?

Is it a file that you can share with me? You can try to anonymize it using
Command-x buffer-anonymize
