Are you talking about building LyX? If so, are you building with CMake?
If so, see the CMake flags 'LYX_PROGRAM_SUFFIX=OFF' and
'LYX_LOCALVERSIONING=ON'. I'm guessing there's an alternative way if
you're using autotools instead of CMake.
