I used it when I presented my thesis.
If you do double display (e.g. connect your computer to a projector) then you can see on the laptop monitor your notes for the presentation together with a timer and a thumbnail of the next slide.
However I don't know how you add in LaTeX those notes to the pdf, and I never dig deep into what it means in terms of adobe's pdf specs.
