Thanks. Not sure I did it right, but this is what I did. Added that string to the PATH as follows
/Library/TeX/texbin:/usr/texbin:/sw/bin:/sw/sbin:/opt/local/teTeX/bin:/opt/local/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/Users/tgarrett/opt/anaconda3/bin
quit, restarted, reconfigured. Still get the same error message:
The layout file:
article could not be found. A default textclass with default layouts will be used. LyX will not be able to produce
correct output.
