Why a copy of my graphics file is created in the temporary directory

All related material for export including figures is first copied into temporary directory and only after that the export to e.g. pdf is done.
Often you need to do some specific conversions (e.g. figure in .eps -> figure in .pdf) or final pdf assembly. Similarly with bibliography etc. 

If you do all this intermediate stuff in your original directory with .lyx/figures there will be lot of messy and orphaned files around.
