but I had removed all the tex related package from /usr/share so that it 
it in /usr/local only.

Strange.

Perhaps I should work as a different user on my notebook and start anew 
with lyx. I am also inclined not too use the Lyx2.4dev any more. It took 
me so much time and frustration. However, before doing it, I should know 
how to get the lyx2lyx conversion in order to downgrade my 2.4 lyx files 
to the 2.3x
