I use Zotero together with the excellent Better BibTeX
<https://retorque.re/zotero-better-bibtex/> Zotero extension exclusively
precisely because it is cross-platform (I use MacOS, Linux, and Windows).
And the Zotero browser extension is fantastic — just click on it from a
Google scholar page or journal page or any other page with bibliographic
info and it automagically creates a new Zotero entry for you with all the
relevant bib info in your preferred citation format. Better BibTeX then
immediately updates your BibTeX file so you can cite the new entry right
away in LyX (or Word, if you have to use it, which has a nice Zotero
plug-in). BibDesk is excellent but I myself stopped having any need for it
long ago. (YMMV, of course — BibDesk still has features that others might
find essential.)
