A few months ago, I upgraded to Windows 11. Since then, the math preview doesn't work properly:

Is this problem due to my old version of LyX? Will it work better in a newer version of LyX 2.3.5.x?




  1.  If you view the document as a PDF, does the math look correct? I believe that instant preview uses the fonts used in the compiled document. If the compiled document looks wrong, you either need to install missing fonts or to correct the font settings for the document.

The PDF-version looks fine. It is only the instant preview in LyX that looks “corrupted”. This started to happen after I installed Windows 11 over Windows 10 (I didn’t reinstall any programs).

  *   You might want to open a new document, type a formula, and see if preview works there. If yes, then the issue is specific to the document excerpted above. If preview does not work with a new document, most likely either a helper program is missing. In that case you can try the following.
  *   * Close LyX if it is open, then open a command window and start LyX with the option "-dbg graphics".
  *   *Start a new document and add a small math formula, noting beforehand what the last message in the command window was. (Everything to that point can be ignored.)
  *   * As new messages show up, look for an error message. If you are not sure what you are seeing, copy just the messages from the point where you type the math formula and paste them into a message here.



Seems like if I open a *new* document (of same style), then instant preview works.

Since I have loads of documents from the last 5-6 years using LyX, I’ll have to check around to see what is wrong and how I can fix it most easily.
