Well it is just that I don't see the .log file as an intermediate file... But thanks for pointing that out.

Having said that, what is the meaning of the "View" (cmd+R) button and how is it different from "Export PDF (pdflatex)/(XeTeX)/(Luatex) etc."?

Asked another way: what is the command that lyx passes to the terminal when I do "View" and what is the command when I do "Export"?
