Index pagestyle

Many thanks for your reply, Herbert.
Before I wrote
\renewcommand{\ps at plain}{\pagestyle{fancy}}
in the preamble, the first page of the index gave the page number on the
bottom middle, as opposed to all other chapter starts on the bottom right.
The index seems to grab some other page styles different to those in my
document.
The second page does not get the pagestyle fancy as I defined it in the
preamble. The section title in uppercase-letters (as opposed to
\scshape) doesn't appear elsewhere in my document. I am confused.
