outline pane issues and huge note slowness

I return to this after some time, I did not forget you!

First idea : could you check whether the issue depends on your screen 
fonts? Here I do not see the big slowdown that you describe and I use
Times New Roman
Dejavu Sans
Dejavu Sans Mono

Second thing: could you try to reproduce the slowness issue in hotspot, 
switch the the "flame graph" tab and take a snapshot (see first attachment)

In the second attachment, I have zoomes on the first big flame group by 
clicking on the 'singleParUpdate' rectangle. This allow me to see where 
is time spent inside of this function.

If you can run something similar, I trust that we will find out what is 
the task that requires so much time.
