soul module change highlighting background on the fly

Hi,

I have highlighted some text after loading the soul Module and that
works reasonably well.  

At the moment I do 

	yellow text <ERT>\sethlcolor{orange}</ERT>orange text
	<ERT>\sethlcolor{yellow}</ERT>yellow text

while certainly doable I'd rather be able to do this with the usual ^A
and some options. 

Where can I read up on  this?
