Yes, this what "language default" does. The problem we have is that we
have no way to know what is the bibtex file encoding.
I noticed that because I see a lot of encoding errors on the console.
Does it help to set the document language to UTF8?

Can you get gdb to show the other threads? File export is multithreaded
and it may be why your backtrace is not very helpful.

Yes, the .lyx file is always uncode. It is the latex file that matters here.
