Obsolete template fails after TL26 update

The obsolete template

  American_Geophysical_Union_%28AGUTeX%29.lyx

fails after a tlmgr update. I now get the following error:

  ! Missing $ inserted.
  <inserted text> 
                  $
  l.63 \begin{tabular}{|c|c|}

I attach a MWE LyX file.

I don't expect anyone to actually look into this, since (1) it is an
obsolete template, and (2) it is a regression due to LaTeX (or
packages), not LyX.
