The trac page to create an account now states:

"Due to massive spam abuse of our bug tracker we disabled the automatic 
account registration. If you wish to create new account please ask on 
our mailling list and we'll create new account for you."

And when clicking on the "mailing list" link, one gets the following 
information (among others):

"Note: As of 14 September 2016, the GMANE web interface is being rebuilt 
following a transfer of ownership. Unfortunately access to the LyX 
mailing lists through the GMANE web interface is still (Aug 2017) not 
working. However, the 'news' service is still operational and you can 
use a news reader to e.g. access posts in the developer's list through
nntp+news.gmane.io:gmane.editors.lyx.devel."

I don't think LyX users can be expected to be familiar with new readers. 
So, this means that possibly a lot of valuable feedback gets lost, 
right? Are there any alternatives in the pipe?
