The situationwith 2.4 is accetable, so I don't think we need to spend more time
on optimizations. I would bet that the main consumer will have something to do 
with painting routines...

On the positive side, that allows stats to be computed on real demand only.
I propose that we decrease the general delay from 5s to 3s now.
It was mainly cursor movement which brought me to that high value.
