LyX closes when searching and replacing within an equation.

Ordinary search and replace does not work on math. You have to use the 
advanced version. I'm not sure that will do what you want though.

Missing word here? It'd be good to be able to reproduce this crash, even 
though...

The offending braces are there in the code you pasted. LyX just includes 
them, because it doesn't try to outsmart you. I'd take them out first, 
then paste.
