lyx 2.4.0 crashes on the command line on Silicon Mac

This runs fine on my machine (Apple M1 Max)
LyX
Version 2.4.0 (May 25, 2024)
Qt Version (run-time): 5.15.13 on platform cocoa
Qt Version (compile-time): 5.15.13
OS Version (run-time): macOS 14.5
Python detected: 3.10.1 (/usr/local/bin/python3)

Where SIGSEGV happens in newfile1.err, instead the next thing I get is
support/environment.cpp (111): Prepending
"/Library/TeX/texbin:/usr/texbin:/sw/bin:/sw/sbin:/opt/local/teTeX/bin:/opt/local/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/Applications/ImageMagick/bin/"
to PATH
