My bad :) I replaced in the email the branch names so they have some meaning in
english and did not know that "_" will break it...

IMHO not really needed, as said the code was just an inspiration.

To be honest I did not try what it does with 2.4. I used that for critical 
bilingual edition a decade ago where bunch of different note-types were needed.

Looking now, the files are saved by lyx 2.0, and I vaguely remember I had
some trivial patch, which needed to be pushed for 2.1 so the branch names are
recognized correctly within layout syntax.

With the LabelString I don't remember. Maybe it never worked, maybe something
broke in the code during the years...

Right? :) This allowed me to have single document with several different
note-apparatuses for completely different target audiences.

I think that with complex enough commands you could do pretty crazy
stuff with different on-off branch combinations :)
