Is hiding stuff behind the "more" sub-context menu intentional?

The original line of code I found was the correct one after all, it's just that my modifications caused an msbuild​ (due to an unused variable), but msbuild​ was couloring the error message in the same colour as warnings and didn't stop the build immediately, so I didn't actually notice it hadn't recompiled LyX at all.

Personally I found right clicking the "tab" (or whatever it is that shows the label of the inset) to be the obvious way to change an inset settings, and so I never would have considered that a "bug".

If I have time later, I may modify the code that does the > 50​ check to actually count properly, as it's counting context menu items that don't even show up.
Or you could just make the number much larger than 50​. I've personally not had a context menu in LyX that was too long, but users with higher DPI's/lower resolutions might have problems. (for example if I right click the menu bar I get a context menu with 49 items! but my screen could probably fit 6 more).
