If we go this way, we might want to make this configurable, as it is in 
math currently.

A nice way to make it configurable would be to put it in a LyX document 
containing a 3 columns tabular inset. This would allow arbitrary strings 
and insets in the replacement table. I am not sure though how expensive 
this would be in terms of performance.
