sudo dnf install texlive-cprotect
I believe this is a fedora packaging issue, probably should be added to lyx
package (or to a supplemental lyx-preview package).

Now I have the same preview as I did with 2.3.6, which is also not usable.
I have math preview, but with absurd amounts of whitespace.  There are no
error messages from lyx-devel -dbg graphics.
