\\ is redefined in many LaTeX environments, I was wondering what is the
situation with \\*. I.e. Whether it is safe enough to rename '\\*' to
'line break without pagebreak'.

We could paint new glyph, e.g. like the attached.
(Example of such plotting is also in the commit I refered in my earlier email.)
