LilyPond to ePub: how to run LilyPond on the DocBook output?

I haven't followed this conversation, but two ideas:

1. We could have a separate converter (and separate file format).

2. There could be a transition layer that detects whether it's necessary
   to run LilyPond (and if so it runs it).
