Personally, I'd prefer to keep LyX files small and plain text. Also,
wouldn't embedding graphics introduce extra work if the source graphic
was changed? For instance, if I embedded a plot, then later changed data
an reran the plot, I would need to manually update the LyX file.
The LyX Archive export seems to be a good solution for sharing (or
archiving) documents.
