Thanks for your work on this, Lorenzo! Can you give more details on what you mean by "far from perfect"? I won't have time to review the patch, but for whoever does it is often useful to know which problems you're aware of.

Git is not fun at the beginning, but hopefully you find it useful in the future (for LyX or your own work) :)
