LyX acting differently between computers

I use LyX with MikTeX on Windows daily. It is not problem-free, so I'm open to test out TeXLive (or LuaTeX?).

The important questions wrt. TeX distribution is whether the choice *limits*...
* available styles/packages/etc. that can be used,
* stability,
* ease of use
* speed of operation

The LyX project itself does not have an official view about TeX distributions, but our experience has tended to be that TeXLive is more reliable than MikTeX on Windows.
