Lyx 2.3.5.1 and 2.3.5.2 won't open old files on Mac [Solved]

On Mint, it seems to make no difference; the same file in Dropbox opens 
fine. For what it's worth, the setting is in the spellchecker section of 
the preferences file, which seems a bit odd but harmless.

The key question is whether it makes a difference on OSX.
