Provide an alpha build of LyX 2.4 to ease testing?

To be sure.

Even if it's not officially an alpha (for the reasons Kornel mentioned), 
it might be worth trying to do some kind of 'testing' release. I can 
probably get to that this week or weekend.

I had meant to do that more frequently, anyway, but then ...
